"Week 4 is over and so is the month of JULY! Hard to believe next Tuesday is August 2nd. This past week we read books about the Farm. Many of our friends knew different types of farm animals and the sounds they make. We were able to dance around to "Old Macdonald had a Farm". On Tuesday, we introduced potato head during table time. For story, we read a funny Old Lady book "There was an Old Lady Who Swallowed A Cow". At small group we used our pointer finger to make black dots on a cow shape. On Wednesday, we worked on painting tractors and cutting out circles (wheels). Always a fun time when we hand out the scissors (haha). Really though this is a good skill to practice at home and ALWAYS with adult supervision. Remind your child "thumb in small hole, fingers in bigger hole" and very important "thumb always points up to the sky/ceiling". Use your helper hand to hold and turn the paper. If you ask ....Why are scissor skills important for preschoolers? lots of reasons...but an important one is... Builds hand strength – Opening and closing scissors helps children build up the small muscles in their hands. These muscles are important for everyday activities such as drawing, using cutlery, brushing your teeth and getting dressed. On Thursday, we made tracks on paper ..fun but messy! We read a book about farm animals and then used our fine motor skills to peel stickers and place them on paper to make our own farm picture! We enjoyed other activities during the week to reinforce our ELA and Math skills. Everyday we work our gross motor muscles by doing movement and playing on the playground.
